Lorde Shares Update on New Album: 'Truly Jazzed for You to Hear It'

'Happy, playful things' are on the way

May 20, 2020

Well, it's about time for a Lorde update.

The Kiwi singer has offered up an update in a lengthy newsletter to fans, and it's safe to say she's as excited about it as we are.

"I am truly jazzed for you to hear it," Lorde says about her highly-anticipated follow up to the 2017 album Melodrama.

The singer shared some reflections on her sophomore album, and that she was already working on the follow up in a social media post last summer, saying she felt she had "a lot" grown since its release. "I've been to Antarctica, I have a dog now and a cat and I can bake bread and cook dinner and keep plants alive etc. It's a good life you've given me. Thank you thanky ou. Third one in the oven."

In a heartbreaking newsletter sent to fans in November of last year, she updated her followers that the dog she mentioned previously, Pearl, had passed away -- ultimately delaying the writing and recording process of new music.

"I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out," she writes in the latest mailing. "Happy, playful things."

Lorde continued, "and then, of course, the world shut down," while saying that she and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff - who helped her write and record Melodrama - had been getting together before the 2020 pandemic hit.

"We’re still working away — Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer.”

You can read her full letter to fans above -- and if you're not already, now would probably be a good time to sign up for Lorde's newsletter. You never know what the next message from 'The Island' will be!
