A Wisconsin family is being praised for their "bear-y" heroic act.

On Sunday, the Hurt family helped save a young black bear who got its head stuck in a plastic cheese ball container.

The couple, Tricia and Brian, along with their son, Brady, were heading back to shore after fishing on Marsh-Miller Lake when they saw something floating in the water.

Initially, they thought it might be a rock or a dog, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, but eventually, they realized it was a bear that was struggling to breathe.

"We got closer and I said, 'Yeah, that's a bear that got hungry and got its head stuck in a bucket,’” Tricia exclaimed.

"We knew that if we didn't do something, we are pretty sure it would not have made it to shore," she told CNN. "It was really huffing and puffing, my husband said."

"We got a bear here. Poor thing's got a tub on its head," Tricia says in the video posted to her Facebook page. Since Sunday, it has amassed more than a million views.

According to the publication, the family made a few attempts to save the bear before Brian successfully tugged the container freeing the bear.

The Hurt family revealed the rescue mission lasted about five minutes and the bear successfully swam back to shore.

"We were so excited! We did our good deed for the day. We will never ever do this again, and it felt good to help the poor bear. You don't like to see animals struggle," Tricia told the publication.

While the family initially didn’t plan to share the video, word of their heroic act spread as people watched from the shore. “We wanted everyone to know that the bear was OK,” Tricia explained, especially after finding out that the bear was stuck with the container on its head for three or four days.

Despite multiple calls to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, they were unable to locate the bear because of the “rural, wooded landscape,” the family admitted.

"We just happened to be in the right place at the right time," she revealed.
