A few weeks ago news broke that Disney would be moving forward with a live-action reimagining of “The Lion King” with director Jon Favreau at the helm.

Now, we know we’re getting yet another live-action reimagining of a Disney classic, this time with ‘Aladdin’.

Guy Ritchie, the stylistic director behind the Robert Downey Jr-starring Sherlock Holmes movies, is in negotiations to helm Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 1992 animated classic Aladdin.

Also, part of the non-traditional aspect of the project is the studio’s intent to make it non-linear, a move right out of the Ritchie playbook. The helmer made his name directing snappy crime thrillers such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch that used that kind of storytelling. He last directed The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and is in postproduction on King Arthur, Warners’ upcoming take on the Camelot legend. – Hollywood Reporter

There’s no timetable for production, or a release date as of yet, but what we do know is this reimagining will include much of the musical aspects from the animated 1992 film.

If you’re upset about a remake that won’t include Robin Williams, don’t forget we’re also getting a new Jumanji movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black & more in 2017.
