Is "Bang Bang" a one-off or a full-throated comeback?

It’s been four years since Green Day released three studio albums in rapid fire succession: 2012’s ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!. Since then, the California quartet have released virtually no new music, besides a surprise Christmas single last December. Last night, Billie Joe Armstrong tweeted an announcement that will send fans into overdrive: A new single called “Bang Bang” will premiere on August 11. This is not a test.

No details about the single (or whether it corresponds to an album) are immediately available, but band members have been teasing footage from the studio for months. In April, producer Rob Carvallo told NME that Green Day was completing five tracks.

“Let me tell you, they were just fantastic. He is absolutely at the top of his game,” Cavallo said. “Fans can be sure that when they do return, the music will be amazing.”
