SAP Center in San Jose was a little more rocking than usual for the Sharks versus the Los Angeles Kings last night when the Sharks hosted the inaugural Metallica Night.

The night featured appearance by Metallica band members, Metallica music, a revamp themed-logo (see above) and a 4-2 victory against the Kings.

In each of the past two seasons, Metallica has teamed up with the San Francisco Giants for very successful Metallica nights so the expansion to Bay Area hockey was a logical choice.

“It [Metallica Night] worked so well with the Giants that we thought.” Explained Metallica front man James Hetfield, “Let’s spread it out. Let’s spread the love.”

When the band joined the San Francisco Giants for a game, the band took the field for a little batting practice but for the Sharks Hetfield had no plans on donning ice skates and taking the ice.

“I’ve got to stay safe for my kids. I want to meet my grand kids.” Commented Hetfield, “Me getting out on the ice — you don’t want that. I don’t want that either.”

“James is accident prone.” Seconded bassist Robert Trujillo, “He’s a bit of a daredevil. Any situation you’ve got to watch out for him.”
